Gladys Adija Markus, a single mother of two, serves as an inspiration to all young women and single mothers everywhere with her tale of transformation from grass to grace. You should never let being a single mother stop you from following your aspirations and realizing your goals. Gladys, a 27-year-old mother of two stunning daughters, was born and raised in Jos, East Local Government Area. She completed her studies in Accounting at Plateau State University in Bukkos in 2019. a former model and activist involved in beauty pageants.
She became unwed pregnant while attending school, and she started living a different kind of life. The parents were the only ones who supported her despite the humiliation she faced from society at large. Her mother, a women’s fellowship leader at the time who was nearly dismissed in spite of the difficulties, had to stay by her side throughout her birth and assisted with child care.

After graduating, Gladys enlisted in the NYSC for 2020. She saved the remaining N8,000 from her allowance each month during her service year. She responded, “By the end of my service year, I was able to save around N320,000,” when questioned in an interview. I still found it difficult to maintain my friend’s quality of living even though I only spent N8,000 of my stipend each month and saved the remainder. I started taking up cleaning and laundry jobs to help me make ends meet. I also started tutoring kids to supplement my income. Even though at the time my friends made fun of me for leading a thrifty lifestyle, I am thankful for where I am now.”

Pursuing your aspirations might be quite difficult since you have to make sacrifices and go without food in order to achieve them.

She started her business the month she was supposed to pass out of the service year.
When asked what motivated her to keep pushing, she said her daughters’s are her only motivation, as she doesn’t just want to give them a good life but build a good future for them and generations to come.
She got married but later got divorced because she discovered she wasn’t compatible with the man.

Today, she is a big name, and she was interviewed and appeared on PunchlineNews on April 13, 2024, where she shared her life experience. She was also made a brand ambassador for Simoyo’s nature in recent years. She has an initiative called “Her dream’s agency,” where she is focused on teenage single mothers and helping young girls stay away from premarital sex. She organized a one-day class to officially launch the initiative on May 31, 2024, tagged “How to Start a Food Business.”
