Indeed, the age of youth has arrived; a young army officer in the remote Burkina Faso desert is rewriting history and upending the political landscape on a global scale. Additionally, the Nigerian House of Representatives is undergoing a political baptism in Nigeria, the most populous Black country on earth. This time, Dr. Agbese, another changemaker who is shaking the table, is spreading the message instead of the biblical John the Baptist. When the young Agbese won a landslide victory in 2023 to represent his federal constituency of Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo, he made history.
Dr. Agbese sponsored over eleven bills in 2024; his legislative agenda reflects his interests and strengths. He places a strong emphasis on human rights, education, national security, defense, communication, and sustainable development objectives. He pledges to support the interests and concerns of young people as one of the youngest lawmakers in history.
His charitable activities are well known, especially in his district and the Northeast. In his native country, he is known by the traditional title of Okanga Agila in recognition of his contributions.
Dr. Philip Agbese was born on February 25, 1987, in the Ado Local Government Area, into a noble family in Agila land. His educational journey began in 1992 at LGEA Primary School Agila. Following his primary school graduation in 1998, he attended the Federal Government College in Ugwolawo, Kogi State, to complete his secondary education. His quest for knowledge brought him to the University of Ilorin, where he graduated in 2005 with a degree in biochemistry. Continuing his academic success, Agbese relocated to the UK in 2015 and earned a master’s degree in human rights law from Middlesex in 2021, an MBA from the University of Chichester in 2020, and a law degree from Middlesex University London. He also holds a diploma in freelance journalism from the British College of Journalism, London.
Throughout his career, Agbese has been linked to organizations that have a significant impact. From 2012 to 2015, he worked at the Center for Social Justice, Equity, and Transparency. Agbese has helped resolve disputes as a principal partner at Preventive Diplomacy in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2015, he founded Global Amnesty Watch in London, and in 2016, he founded a media organization called The Nigerian News Group. His contributions as a prolific author of books and articles, both domestically and abroad, demonstrate his influence in the literary world.
While studying in Nigeria, Agbese actively participated in student politics, which marked the beginning of his political career. While attending the University of Ilorin, he served in the Senate and the National Association of Idoma Students (NAIS). In 2019, he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), which brought him into the mainstream. He won the 2023 elections for the federal constituency seat of Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu.
