The executive chairman of the GIG Group, which includes God is Good Motors and GIG Logistics, is Mr. Chidi Ajaere, a Nigerian investor and businessman. He is a man who deserves to be referred to as a good father’s son.
Chidi emerged as the CEO of GIG Group barely when he was 21 years old, Chidi Ajaere took over his parents’ transport company after his father’s demise in 2009.
With roots in the transportation industry, GIG Group is currently one of Nigeria’s oldest family-owned businesses through its flagship subsidiary, GIG Logistics. Edwin and Stella Ajaere founded God is Good Motors in 1998 with the goal of offering first-rate bus services throughout Nigerian cities.
Tragic events occurred in 2009 when Edwin Ajaere was killed. His son, Chidi, who was studying economics in the United States at the time, came home to assume leadership. What might have brought the family business to an end instead led to a change.
In order to modernise bus travel with app-based booking, digital payments, and enhanced customer experience, Chidi rebranded the business as GIG Mobility (GIGM) by 2010. In 2012, he broadened the group’s focus with GIG Logistics (GIGL), based on the belief that e-commerce required a smooth delivery foundation. GIGL has developed into a major worldwide logistics company since its initial cargo, linking African companies with markets on other continents.
on 2018, he also established Jet Systems Automobile, a Nigerian electric vehicle company that specialises on locally produced, environmentally friendly automobiles. The firm, which has its headquarters near the Lekki-Epe Motorway in Lagos, manufactures CNG and electric vehicles for both public and commercial use, including vans, ambulances and 14-seater buses. Jet Systems installed solar-powered charging stations and deployed EVs in collaboration with the Delta State Government. About 5,000 cars can be produced a year at its Lagos assembly factory, and plans to expand to accommodate growing demand are in the works.
With new projects like Danfo, a tech-enabled intra-city transport service, and expansions into Ghana, GIG Group has transformed from a family business into a multinational logistics conglomerate.
