Barr. Simon Chuzi Egede (MON) is a Rtd. Solicitor – General of Benue State and Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Justice, Makurdi (SG/PS). Barrister Chuzi rose through the ranks to attaining such a lofty height with resounding performance in various roles he played throughout his service years.
Barr. Simon Chuzi Egede (MON) is an erudite statman and highly respected lawyer who has distinguished himself with an excellent career. He served the Benue State Government in various capacities as Secretary/Legal Adviser to Radio Benue Makurdi from October 1991 to July 1996; Ag General Manager (GM) of Radio Benue between 1994 and 1996. Director of Civil Litigation in the Benue State Ministry of Justice for Fifteen years and Six Months from January 2005 to June 2020. Soon after, he was appointed Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice where he served for Three years and Five Months between June 2020 until June 2023 whereupon he embarked on compulsory retirement.
Barr. Chuzi did not start and end his career at the State level only. His career path led him to becoming the Executive Secretary of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) between 2009 and 2011 during the time of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. As Executive Secretary of NAPTIP, he was given the National Honour of Member of the Order of Niger (MON) as a result of his outstanding performance.
Upon his exit from NAPTIP, he served briefly as Legal Adviser in the Code of Conduct Bureau, Abuja from April 2012 to March 2013, Ag Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF) at the Federal Ministry of Justice between May and October of 2013 where he handled matters involving inmates awaiting trial endlessly. He, also, served has Senior Special Assistant to two Attorney Generals and Ministers of Justice at two different times between 2007 and 2015 namely Chief Mike Kaase Aondaka (2007 – 2009) and Bello Adoke (2013 – 2015).
He was born on 23rd June, 1963 in Utonkon district of Idoma valley in today’s Benue State of Nigeria. He had His Secondary Education at JohnBosco College Doma Benue State, which He finished in 1980 and proceeded to the Prestigious University of Jos and graduated with L.L.B (Hons) in 1985.
He is a Prince, the Son of HRH MATTHEW EGEDE of UFIA Kingdom, the current Olong Nwe Ufia ( Paramount Ruler of Ufia) Barr. Chuzi has received awards from various National and International organizations in recognition of his humanitarian services. Barrister Chuzi is known for his strategic planning, customer service management, project management as well as a successful Solicitor and Advocate. At various times in his endeavors, he lent a hand by providing job opportunities to the youths. Barr. Chuzi is one person who has contributed immensely towards the growth and development of Nigerian youths. He live a simple life. He is a jolly good fellow.
